For my first blog, I thought it would be cool to take the results from the past 3 Olympic Games (200, 2004, and 2008) and the world championships prior to the Games (1999, 2003, and 2007) to see what the podium would look like in 2012. First, I'm going to take the world champion, and compare it to how they did at the Olympics in each of the events. I'm going to do this for the podium, to try and predict what the London podiums will look like.
Team
Tianjin 1999
Gold-Romania
Silver-Russia
Bronze-Ukraine (China's results were nullified, handing the bronze to the Ukrainians)
Sydney 2000
Gold-Romania
Silver-Russia
Bronze-United States (Again, China lost the bronze due to age falsification)
Anaheim 2003
Gold-United States
Silver-Romania
Bronze-Australia
Athens 2004
Gold-Romania
Silver-United States
Bronze-Russia
Stuttgart 2007
Gold-United States
Silver-China
Bronze-Romania
Beijing 2008
Gold-China
Silver-United States
Bronze-Romania
Tokyo 2011
Gold-United States
Silver-Russia
Bronze-China
On average, the World Champion placed 1.7, or second in the Olympics Games. The silver medalist placed 1.3, or first. The bronze medalist placed in fifth place. Using these averages, we can predict based on history, that the top 3 team from Tokyo will place
Russia-Gold
United States-Silver
China-Fifth
Kinda hard to believe that the reining Olympic Champions will place fifth, but it's gymnastics and anything can happen. All Around competitions are coming next:)
Thanks for reading
